The Goal 

To create a plan to socialize the importance of planetary health initiatives and build momentum across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). 

The Context

Planetary Health is the field of how climate change is addressed within the healthcare system. Planetary Health is a newer area of work at VCH that is spread across three different departments. Leadership in this area needed guidance on the best internal communications strategy, and how to socialize the idea of Planetary Health across VCH staff.

The Process  

The Planetary Health Team is made of three separate departments, so we needed to start with consensus building. We did this through a series of facilitated feedback sessions, where leadership agreed on key terms and concepts that were vital to the understanding of Planetary Health, and then agreed on definitions for these terms, and well as key case studies that could build understanding across VCH. 

In follow-up sessions, Altaira led the team through discussions regarding key messaging, audiences, and potential tactics for sharing this messaging across the organization.

The Results 

An actionable high-level communications plan including simple plain-language summary of core concepts and key messages to b e shared across VCH.
